What is the role of religion in modern society?
Religion has always played a significant role indevelopment of society. The attitude to it has changed over the centuries, and religious concepts have also changed. And if before the existence of some kind of supernatural power was almost never questioned, then the role of religion in modern society is not so great. Moreover, today it is the subject of incessant disputes, discussions, and often - convictions.
In addition to the three world religions - Buddhism,Christianity and Islam - there are many other trends. Each of them is the most important source of the code of moral rules and values, to some extent close to a certain people. Actually, religious norms are nothing more than a reflection of the existing views of an ethnos. Therefore, the role of religion in society has always been dogmatic and helped a person to fight temptations and the dark side of his soul.
The importance of religion today can notbe the same as it was, say, in the V-VI centuries. And all because the existence of God was explained by the origin of man, our planet, life in general. But the role of religion in the modern world is insignificant in this respect, because scientific evidence shows the inconsistency of theological views. However, even today, a large proportion of those who prefer to believe that a certain Creator gave life.
The role of religion in modern society has andpolitical basis. This is especially noticeable in the eastern countries, where the Koran (as before, and now) is the basis of all spheres of life: from the spiritual and cultural to the economic and political.
The influence of the church did not bypass education. In Russia for several years (so far - as an experiment) the subject "Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture" appears in the timetable of primary classes. Some believe that this is a necessity, others argue that such an object is an imposition of unnecessary views. The proportion of those who treat this as an opportunity to learn more about the culture of our country, unfortunately, is small. In any case, we can talk about how significant the role of religion in modern society, including in the field of education.
It is interesting that in former times the church as athe organization was not subjected to any third-party studies. Today, many scientists - mainly historians - are engaged in research and analysis of the significance of religion at certain stages of the development of society. Being the subject of study, it allows foreseeing, predicting the future course of events, assessing the situation in the world. Various wars and revolutions, one of the causes of which was the church, are indicators of how much the role of religion in modern society differs from its role, say, in the Middle Ages.
Today, the authority of the Church no longer has the sameforce. All over the world, protests against the actions of clergymen are held. Atheism is becoming increasingly popular: adhering to a healthy way of life, people deny religion as a phenomenon capable of making humanity better. However, for many, the Church in a world full of wars and hatred is the only spiritual refuge, and therefore it is foolish to deny the significant role of religion in modern society.
