Austria is a picturesque country with a high levellife, which is worth visiting at least once. Here you can not only see the sights, but also visit ski resorts or spend a quiet weekend on the lake.
Big cities of Austria
Austria is a small country, its administrativeThe division consists of nine federal lands, which, in turn, consist of districts and statutory cities. Here are the largest cities in Austria (the list includes the ten largest in terms of area and population of settlements):
- Vienna is the capital of the country and the eponymous federal land, one of the richest and most luxurious cities in the country. Vienna is located in the eastern part of the state on the banks of the Danube.
- Graz is the second largest city in Austria. It is the center of the federal state of Styria. Graz is considered a student city, and its center is declared the property of mankind and is protected by UNESCO.
- Linz is located in Upper Austria. This is one of the most important cultural and educational capitals of the country.
- Salzburg is the capital of the homonymous federal state. It is located almost on the border with Germany in the Alpine mountains on the Salz River, from which the name of the city took place.
- Innsbruck is the capital of the Tyrol region. One of the typical cities that combine both ordinary urban life and ski resorts. Austria, the city in which, for the most part, is very developed, can be proud of the fact that Innsbruck managed to preserve the historical buildings, making it, nevertheless, modern.
- Klagenfurt is located in the southern part of the country. It is the capital of the Carinthia region. The population of Klagenfurt is only a little over 90 thousand people.
- Villach is the second largest city in the land of Carinthia, the seventh in Austria. The cities of this region are in the Alps area, there are also many lakes here.
- Wels, like Linz, is located in UpperAustria. It is the second largest city in the region. Wels is a very ancient settlement located on the Traun River. In it lives a little more than 56 thousand people.
- St. Pölten is the capital of the Lower Austria region. It is considered the oldest city in the country and is located near Vienna, between the Alps and the Danube.
- Dornbirn is also a very old city, heIt is the capital of the land of Vorarlberg, of which the whole of Austria is proud. The cities of this region are mostly small in area and in number of inhabitants. Dornbirn, which closes the ten largest Austrian cities, is very close to the border with neighboring states.
Resort towns
Despite the fact that the above mentioned settlements are the largest in area, they are not as popular as many ski resorts and bathhouses that are popularized by Austria.
These cities are visited mainly by foreign guests who come especially to enjoy a unique climate. The most popular among them are Innsbruck, Baden and Salzburg.
Luxurious capital
Separately a few words worth talking about the city of Vienna -the capital of the country. You will remember the trip here for sure for many years. After all, this is really a chic and exquisite city with a rich history. Fans of shopping Vienna especially like it, because there is a two-kilometer street with shops.
A couple of tips for travelers
If you are planning a trip to Austria, do notforget that prices here, they say, bite. The cost of a number of products will be markedly different (unfortunately, to a greater extent) from what we are accustomed to. Even if you are going to go to Austria in the summer, then do not forget about the warm clothes, the weather there is changeable, and you may well need a knitted sweater.
