The school was organized solely at the expense of Valentine Gaiui, without any support from the French government. It was back in the year 1784.

On November 13, the Day of the Blind was declared Worldwideholiday. But it happened not immediately after the opening of that very first school. More recently, the International Day of the Blind appeared in 1984. The World Health Organization recognized this holiday as truly significant and important, making it an annual event. All civilized countries happily accepted this decision, starting to develop various scenarios for holding events for blind and visually impaired children and adults.

Purpose of the holiday

The main goal is to attract attentionpublic to the problems that people who are deprived of vision face every day. And it concerns not only, for example, travel around the city, but also the lack of sufficient funding for special educational institutions for the blind and visually impaired. It is on the International Day of the Blind that various charity events and events are held, the purpose of which is to raise funds to help children and adults who are blind.

In addition, the public on this holidayreally turns his attention to what he tries not to notice on any other days. It is noteworthy that the most difficult is to employ the blind and visually impaired to work, since a rare employer is ready to take on such responsibility. The World Day of the Blind also allows people with such limited abilities to show what they are capable of, despite the lack of vision.

How to conduct in Russia

In Russia, November 13, the holiday is celebrated in manylarge and not very big cities. The All-Russian Organization of the Blind is carefully preparing for it, connecting not only volunteers to the organization of events, but also state structures, private entrepreneurs and all not indifferent. The International Day of the Blind, whose script in every city is its own, is not that holiday when mass festivities are held. No, it is rather a cultural, introductory and in some way "high" event. So, in 2014 in Astrakhan was opened the first in the city sports hall for blind and visually impaired people. Work in it exclusively prepared specialists, ready at any time to come to the aid of the disabled.

Pilot project in Moscow

In the capital of the country in 2014 was developedan innovative project for Russia aimed at making life easier for the visually impaired and blind: the organization of special signs in restaurants. A distinctive feature of this cinema was the equipment with special headphones, according to which the speakers describe the actions occurring on the screen. That is, a person can not simply hear the dialogues from the film, but also understand what is being shown at that moment, which scene is being scrolled at the moment. Of course, this is by no means the only achievement of Europeans in easing the lives of people with disabilities. However, the opening of such a cinema was planned on the International Day of the Blind. The script then did not include anything special. Just organizations dealing with the problems of disabled people who lack visibility, spread the news among the interested, invited volunteers and held a grand opening.

Literacy and statistics

In 2013 in the Orel region was organizedcompetition for the best reader among the visually impaired and the blind. Naturally, the participants read Braille system (a special technique of reading with fingers). However, it was then noted that the level of literacy is significantly reduced among disabled people. And this is due to the fact that in private schools there is a fairly high price list for training, and in the state often there is simply not enough money and resources to organize the educational process.
