Varieties
Thermal tape for a silencer is made on the basis ofsilica, expanded clay, basalt, carbon or ceramics. Such materials withstand temperatures from 850 to 1100 degrees. These products are manufactured with a width of 25 mm or more. For motorcycles, the most convenient to use tape is 50 mm wide.
Until quite recently it was possible to purchase stripsonly two basic colors: white and black. Now in the market there are such products of the most various colors. You can choose the ribbon that best fits the color of your motorcycle.

The second useful function of this material is to protect the legs of a motorcyclist from the parts of the exhaust system heated to very high temperatures.

This coating increases the soundproofing of the exhaust system, although hardly any of the bikers are embarrassed by the roar of the motor of its "two-wheeled friend."
Winding process
The process of winding the silencer of a thermal tape is quite simple and does not take much time:
- First remove the muffler and exhaust manifold withmotorcycle (the technology of dismantling depends on the specific model of the bike, but, as a rule, dismantling begins in the direction from the engine to the rear attachment of the muffler).
- Then thoroughly clean the entire surface from dirtand rust (using a metal brush or a nozzle for an electric drill). For more thorough cleaning, we use special fluids to remove rust.
- Place the thermo-tape for the silencer in a container of water (for 1-2 hours). The wet strip can be reeled much more densely than the dry one.
- We fix with the help of the yoke (or wire) the beginning of the tape and gently wrap it around the pipes (with a lag of ¼-⅓ from the width of the strip). We fix the second end of the strip.
- After completing the winding of all parts, install the muffler in place in the reverse order of dismantling.
- Start a motorcycle and warm up the engine. The wound tape completely dries up and fits snugly against the pipes of the exhaust system.
On a note! Some motorcycle owners prefer to wind only the exhaust manifold, while others prefer to "pack" the entire exhaust path entirely.
Than to paint if necessary?
If you can not find the thermal tape fora motorcycle muffler of the right color, and you wrapped the exhaust system with the most common (by the way, the cheapest) white stripe, you can paint it. For this, special silicone heat-resistant paints are used. Usually they are sold in aerosol cans with a capacity of 400 ml.
One capacity will be enough. Price: 420-450 rubles apiece. As a result, due to the savings in tape costs, the overall budget for restoration works will not be affected. In addition, this coating will create an additional protective layer from moisture, gasoline and oil.
