Three-level aquarium in St. Petersburg

In April 2006, a three-level aquarium in St. Petersburg was opened. This unique building is one of the largest in the country, and its area is about 5000 sq.m.

The exhibits presented in the oceanarium pleaseits diversity: in the cozy glass houses of this marine world, five thousand fish found their shelter. The total number of fish, which includes the oceanarium in St. Petersburg, is 120 species. Of these, twenty species are represented only by sharks alone. In the future on the territory of the oceanarium of St. Petersburg it is planned to open the first penguinarium in Russia. This will provide a unique opportunity to observe the penguins, who will be brought here from various territorial and climatic zones.

The Oceanarium in St. Petersburg can please itsvisitors to the inhabitants of seven climatic zones - coral reefs, waters of the Amazon, water spaces of the North-West of Russia, tidal zone, humid tropical jungle. This oceanarium contains 32 aquariums, the total capacity of which is 1000 tons of water. Small inhabitants of the seabed have small aquariums with a capacity of 300 liters, and large animals are located in spacious pools and aquariums. The largest of them is 750 thousand liters. Modern technologies accurately recreate the life of the seabed, and visitors can fully immerse themselves in the interesting world of marine life.

However, the main attraction, whichincludes the aquarium in St. Petersburg - this 35-meter water transparent tunnel containing a moving path on which you feel part of the ocean world, become not only an observer, but also as if you are participating in underwater life. In addition, shark performances are held annually in the city of St. Petersburg. The oceanarium here refutes the view that sharks are primitive beings of a lower level. Every day, with a sinking heart, visitors can observe how the trainers dexterously manage these dangerous predators, sometimes called murder machines.

The Oceanarium in St. Petersburg has a study roomclass, which is well equipped with all necessary equipment in order to study the inhabitants of the marine underwater world, their life and behavior. As is known, in captivity sharks do not reproduce. Therefore, the staff of the oceanarium solved this problem with the help of shark eggs brought from Indonesia, which are placed in a special incubator, where later small sharks appear.

Maintenance of the aquarium is not an easy task. Visitors do not even represent the amount of work that stands in such institutions for sufficient simplicity outside. Dozens of professional biologists watch the condition of pets, they daily check the water for quality, monitor the food, the level of oxygen in the aquariums. In different pools and aquariums, water differs in composition and undergoes various filtration and treatment. The water parameters vary in temperature, stiffness, density, oxygen content, concentration of chemical elements. The oceanarium is considered an integral part of the entertainment complex "Neptune".
