Kyiv: population, its composition and development prospects

In the conditions of uninterrupted urbanization, largecities are expanding more and more rapidly. People see for themselves more attractive life prospects in megacities. An exception is not the capital of Ukraine - Kiev. The population of the city is growing rapidly, threatening to overtake in the near future for four million. Already, the daily population (the number of permanent residents in the city and coming from suburbs to work and study) is 3.98 million people. In the future this figure can be much larger.

National composition

Most of the inhabitants of the city are Ukrainians. But the representation of Russians, Byelorussians, Poles is also great. Besides, from national groups it is possible to allocate Jews, Moldavians, the Crimean Tatars, Greeks. Kiev, whose population is quite diverse in composition, the language of communication for the most part considers Russian as interethnic. On the streets of the city, Ukrainian speech is not so often heard, which is recognized as state speech. Most of the residents prefer to communicate in Pushkin's language, which is understandable to people of all nationalities. Historically, the main religion of the capital is Orthodoxy. There are many

historical places and temples that aremonuments of culture. It is known that Kiev, whose population was baptized first in Russia, was the center of Orthodoxy of the Eastern Slavs. Christianity in Ukraine is traditionally divided into two branches that compete with each other, which is strongly manifested in the capital. In addition, the city is quite developed Catholicism, which is professed by immigrants from the western regions and the Poles. Crimean Tatars brought with them Islam.

Development prospects

In most of the European countries there areproblems of a demographic nature. Thus, the population of Ukraine in the last decade has declined. For the first time, the growth of demographic indicators was recorded in 2010. In the twenty-first century, there is a positive trend in the capital. The population of Kiev (2013) increased by 30.7 thousand people. Scientists predict a significant increase in residents by 2025. So, drawing up a plan for the development of the capital, experts laid the population figure of 4 million people in it. Among the growth factors, urbanism is distinguished. That is, the city will grow at the expense of visitors who want to settle in the capital. The natural increase in the population, despite the programs for stimulating the birth rate, remains unattainable for Kiev. Most of

families has no more than one child. Whereas to increase the population, according to statistics, there should be two or three. Unfortunately, the standard of living does not stimulate families to procreate.

A few historical facts

The first historical information on the numberpopulation of Kiev belong to the XVII century. According to these documents, then ten thousand people lived in the city. In the process of natural growth and migration, this figure has increased in half a decade by one and a half times. I must say that Kiev, whose population has always been multinational, grew rapidly. Thanks to its convenient geographical location, it has long been a center of crafts, and later a focus of the country's cultural traditions.
