What was Oblomov's education like?

All of us, of course, remember the protagonist of the novelGoncharov Ilya Ilich Oblomov. The name itself causes yawning, and the word "Oblomovism" has become synonymous with a lazy lifestyle. Before talking about what the formation of Oblomov was, it is worth recalling the conditions in which he was brought up.

Parental care

Ilyusha, of course, was the son of caringparents who tried to ensure that the precious child received everything with ease, without effort, without making any effort. The boy was not allowed even to lift what he dropped, he did not dress himself. In the parents' home, work was considered a real punishment. For good food and a sound sleep.

The boy was taught to give orders to servants. Initially, of course, he tried to do something himself, but very quickly realized that it is much easier if everyone else does everything for you.

By nature, this child was mobile, but parentsThey did not let him run or frolic, for they were very much afraid that the boy would catch a cold or fall down. Fond of his parental love, Ilyusha gradually lost those powers that were given him by nature.

Primary education of Oblomov

Although Ilya Ilyich's parents were indifferent toto the sciences, they gave him to study in a small boarding house in the village of Verklev, located five versts from their native estate. His education began there, in Ivan Stolz. So he trained up to fifteen years.

Oblomov's education was for parentsthey simply believed that having a diploma would facilitate the rapid promotion of their precious son. After giving the boy to the boarding-school, the mother and father tried in every possible way to avoid Ilyusha overextending himself with the teaching. For the most insignificant reasons, caring parents left him at home, so Ivan Stolz, an energetic teacher, was able to do very little to develop Ilya Oblomov.

University of Moscow

After much reflection, the parents gave their son to study further. He entered the Faculty of Law at Moscow University. So Oblomov's education continued.

Because parents could not "take care" ofson in Moscow, then there, undoubtedly, he got much more knowledge. His debates with Stolz bear the ideas of humanism expressed by the famous professor Nadezhdin.

It should be noted that Oblomov initially studied with enthusiasm, he was inspired by the ideas of Goethe and Byron, but then he lost interest in learning.
